Faith Formation Lead Joins Cedars Staff

Rev. Zackrie Vinczen is pleased to announce that Kathryn Jay will join Cedars as the new Faith Formation Lead (formerly Director of Religious Education). In this role, Kathryn will partner with us to look at new possibilities for programming that engage our congregation in an exploration of our Unitarian Universalist values and identity. In this partnership, we are committed to creative use of virtual spaces and building relationships that include physical distancing, as Kathryn will continue to live in California.

We believe Kathryn will be a good partner for us as we continue to bring our church into the digital age.

Please stay for the Coffee Hour after the worship service on Sunday, August 9. Kathryn will introduce herself at that time. Once she has settled into her new role, there will be more opportunities to meet Kathryn.

Here is her short introduction of herself: My name is Kathryn Jay, and I am excited to be the new Faith Formation Lead at Cedars! I recently earned my Masters of Divinity from the Starr King School for the Ministry, and I am on track for ordination as a UU minister. I previously served as the intern minister at Unity Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, and I now sit on the Board of Trustees at the UU Church of Berkeley.

Before starting seminary, I spent over a decade as a high school teacher and also enjoyed many years volunteering as an RE and OWL teacher. I live with my wife, Elisabeth, and 16-year-old twins, Arlo and Annie, in Berkeley. I love to garden; take my dog, Jolene, on long walks; and cheer for the Oakland A’s!

I look forward to working with you!
