Our culture is in many ways uncomfortable with aging. We’re not even sure what to call ourselves when in our later years of life. Working among people who move into assisted living, or other forms of institutional care, brings up many questions: What does a safe and meaningful life look like for elders? At the same time, what does safe and meaningful work look like for caregivers? How do our UU values guide us? Meeting the care needs of the largest generation in U.S. history is complex and involves justice issues for caregivers around labor, immigration, and race. Today, we’ll explore some current conditions and hopes for eldercare.
